Middletown and Portsmouth residents, I hear you loud and clear
Sunday, November 06, 2016 13:33
As Nov. 8 approaches, I have had the pleasure of introducing myself and listening to issues that are important to you while meeting you throughout Middletown and Portsmouth. You have mentioned issues that are very important to you – especially repealing the income tax on military pensions and other retirement income, education and preserving open space and improving the environment.
Of course, many of you are rightfully concerned about our economy, overall tax burden and lack of accountability at the Statehouse. Please rest assured that as your state representative, I will
be introducing legislation to repeal taxes on all retirement income, including military pensions, and to create an independent inspector general to police state spending and make sure our tax dollars are being spent wisely. I will also be fighting for every last dollar for our schools in Middletown and Portsmouth.
I oppose the RhodeWorks tolling plan, and fear that it will be expanded to passenger cars should the current truck tolling plan be ruled unconstitutional. I support efforts to repeal the car tax and fully reimburse our towns for the revenue, and will sponsor legislation to give the governor the power of line-item veto as an additional check against the General Assembly.
There are many issues that are important to the constituents of District 72.
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime to let me know what is important to you. I respectfully ask that you vote for me, Ken Mendonça, for state representative in Portsmouth and Middletown on Nov. 8.
