Mendonca helps local business owners (NDN 10/15/18)

My wife and I own and operate a small transportation business on Aquidneck Island. We have been in business for over 25 years and recently have added a subsidiary shuttle service to our thriving business. Along with my business partner Nick Liuzza, this new component of our services includes the use of electric and noiseless vehicles.

These vehicles are both practical and environmentally friendly, while adding a new element to our transportation services.

Due to rigorous and archaic state regulations, electric vehicles were strictly prohibited from the roadways of this state. In an effort to find a solution to this restriction and determine an opportunity to move forward, we reached out to Ken Mendonca, our local state representative. He worked vigorously and with sincere resolve over a two-year period to assist us in finding a solution to our difficulty with obtaining a permit for the use of these vehicles. This effort required close coordination and sustained interaction with the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Newport County Visitors and Convention Bureau, and members of the Newport City Council. Along with these organizations, Rep.

Mendonca also worked collaboratively and tirelessly with Rep. Marvin Abney, Sen. Lou DiPalma, and many others to pass necessary legislation to support the use of these vehicles. As small business owners and lifelong residents of Aquidneck Island, we are most appreciative of the support and dedication of Rep. Mendonca and his efforts to help us find a successful solution to this challenging business endeavor. We would like to publicly recognize Rep.

Mendonca for his steadfast support and assistance. Thank you!
