As representative, I will do what is best for district and state

To the residents of House District 72: On Jan. 3, I will be sworn in as your representative to Rhode Island’s legislature.
I take your trust in me very seriously and pledge to be accessible to all of you and listen to and consider respectfully everyone’s points of view. I assure you that my decisions will always be based solely on what is best for you, the people of the district, and our state.
My legislative priorities remain the same as in the campaign:
◆ Improve our economy.
We must build a stronger business sector – especially Aquidneck Island’s defense industry – to create jobs, improve our schools, protect our environment and lower taxes by broadening our tax base.
◆ Eliminate the tax on retirement income. Many of our seniors are caught between an ever-rising cost of living and their fixed income. By abolishing this tax, we can help improve the quality of life for seniors, especially retired military to whom we owe a tremendous debt.
◆ Establish an office of inspector general. We badly need an independent watchdog to guard our tax dollars against waste, fraud and abuse.
◆ Press for more state support for our schools. We need a more balanced formula for state funding of Middletown and Portsmouth schools.
My thanks to the many people who supported my campaign, by displaying my yard signs, by making financial contributions, by writing letter! s to the editor, by staffing polling places and by providing all sorts of other assistance. Thank you to my wife and daughter for putting up with my campaign schedule.
And special thanks to Rep. Dan Reilly, whose place I will be taking, for all his invaluable campaign advice and hard work. Winning was a team effort and I am grateful to everyone involved.
I plan to hold meetings throughout the district to discuss legislative issues. As soon as they are assigned, I will let you know my legislative email address and phone number. In the meantime, I can be reached at email@example.com and 682-1967.
To be effective on your behalf, I need to hear your thoughts on issues. I am confident that together we can make a positive difference.
